Course Description
Students must be enrolled in Literature and Composition 7/8 to enroll in this highly recommended but optional add-on.
The Language Arts Lab is a weekly “virtual hangout” where Literature and Composition 7/8 students receive individualized assistance from their instructor and collaboration time with peers. During this weekly 60-minute session, Mrs. Cook meets with students to correct homework and tests, engage in personalized writing conferences, and tackle challenging literary, vocabulary, or grammatical skills. Together, we dig deeper into literature, polish our rough drafts, and complete vocabulary and grammar exercises. Through lab time, Mrs. Cook reinforces and enriches concepts taught in her course.
In addition, students will learn and practice effective time management and organizational strategies. Language Arts Lab is an optional, though highly recommended, add-on to the Literature and Composition 7/8 course.
We have created Language Arts Labs for Mrs. Cook’s middle school English courses to give parents an additional option to ensure their students acquire strong writing and reading comprehension skills for upper-level high school work while also learning time management and study skills.

This was my family’s first year enrolled at Aim Academy. Wanting to ensure my daughter’s success in the literature/composition course, I opted to have her enroll in the language arts lab with Mrs. Cook. I wasn’t sure how the instructor would balance group exercises with individual attention, but this has not been a problem at all. My daughter has benefitted from the extra help and has an opportunity each week outside of the lit/comp class to ask questions, review concepts, and get feedback on her writing progress. I would highly recommend the language arts lab!

Personally, it’s helpful to have the extra grammar and diagramming practice. Mrs. Cook does a great job at introducing new or unfamiliar grammar terms and shows us how to identify them in sentences and diagram them properly. She goes over assignments that I have turned in and specifically reviews things I have gotten wrong. She helps me through the writing process reviewing the work I have done so far on the current assignment and giving me feedback.
