¡Bienvenidos! Get ready to embark on a fun and exciting journey into the Spanish-speaking world! This beginner-friendly course is designed to help students build a strong foundation in Spanish through interactive activities, stories, music, games, and real-world conversations.

• Interact with cultural competence and understanding.

• Develop insight into the nature of language and culture to interact with cultural competence.
• Communicate and interact with cultural competence to participate in multilingual communities at home and abroad.

Students will learn:

• Basic greetings & introductions
• Everyday vocabulary (family, food, hobbies, etc.)
• Essential grammar & sentence structure
• How to confidently hold simple conversations
• Fun cultural insights from Spanish-speaking countries

Spanish 1 Language Lab:

This class also has a supplemental lab offered for students who wish to refine their pronunciation and take advantage of additional opportunities for listening comprehension and oral output. Please see Spanish 1 Language Lab for more information and to register.  This class is strongly recommended to boost your language skills, pronunciation, fluency, and overall confidence.

Course Structure

We’ll bring Spanish to life through songs, role-playing, creative projects, and even virtual field trips! Whether you’re a visual learner, love hands-on activities, or thrive with auditory support, this class is tailored to make learning Spanish engaging, accessible, and fun. Instructional materials and graded assignments will be built into the online course.  Weekly live class sessions will give students the opportunity to practice speaking, ask questions, and explore various aspects of the Spanish language and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. 

Who should enroll?

This is an introductory course intended for students with little or no previous experience with Spanish.  Perfect for students who enjoy a dynamic and supportive environment. No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to try!  

Technology Requirements

• High-speed, broadband Internet
• Headset and microphone (for live sessions)
• Streaming video capabilities to watch recorded lectures and other class materials

Evaluation and Feedback

Many of the course assignments are auto-graded by the computer. Other assignments will typically be graded within 48 hours of the due date.

Communication

Before the beginning of the course, Sra. de Pineda can be reached at mdepineda[at]aimacademy.online. After the course begins, students and parents are encouraged to use the Inbox in Canvas for all communication. Sra. de Pineda always tries to reply to messages within 24 hours.
