Course Description

Readiness Placement Test

Why our students succeed with Chicago and Delta Math

The Middle School Math 7/8 course aims to prepare students for pre-algebra. The course takes an in-depth approach to understanding rational numbers’ arithmetic and developing the basic ideas of algebra and geometry. A variety of tools and activities will be incorporated to help students compute and apply decimals, fractions, percents, scientific notation, powers, and negative numbers to solve real-world problems. Solving problems using paper and technology, such as dynamic geometry software, will help prepare the students for higher-level math in high school and beyond.

Course Structure

This course has two live 60-minute class sessions per week for review, instruction, practice, and discussion of homework problems/concepts that need further clarification. An important part of this course is seeing, interacting with, and learning from each other. Video recordings of classes will be available for students who must miss a class or want to re-watch a lesson. Students should expect to spend 3-5 hours per week on homework assignments.

Who should enroll?

This course is for students in grades 7-8 who have successfully completed elementary math and are preparing for pre-algebra. (Sixth graders may register with instructor approval – please complete this Readiness Test.)
