I absolutely loved this class. Even virtually the teacher-student and student-student connection was great. Madame Reissig is a wonderful and informative teacher! I learned so much from just 8 months!

Instructor Bio

Shannon Mikell

Shannon Mikell is a French teacher dedicated to instilling a love for the French language and her students’ appreciation for francophone culture. Having received her B.A. and M.A. in French from the University of Florida and the University of South Florida respectively, she completed her studies by earning a Ph.D. in French Language and Literature from Tulane University in New Orleans. Living in Louisiana, she enjoys sharing her state’s particular flavor of francophone culture with her students. Homeschooling her two children has given Shannon a love for the homeschool community and a desire to help other students pursue their studies in foreign languages. She makes every effort to infuse her classes with fun and flexibility while maintaining the appropriate level of academic rigor.

Shannon has been married to her husband Stephen, a pediatrician, for 32 years. Their children, Emma and Ethan, were both homeschooled.  This May, Emma will be graduating from Samford University, and Ethan will be graduating from high school. The last member of the family is one slightly grumpy tabby cat named Aslan who delights in making surprise appearances during online French classes. Shannon’s hobbies include reading, sewing, serving at her church, and buying new school supplies. In her spare time, she loves to travel (to France, of course!) but is also quite happy at home with her family. She can often be found cozily settled on the couch with a book in one hand and a cup of tea in the other. Contact Madame Mikell at smikell[at]aimacademy.online.
