Course Description
Founded in 2023, this student-led club meets on the 2nd & 4th Friday of the month at 1 PM ET. The staff is also in regular communication via Google chat. The club publishes 7–8 issues per year.
Club members organize, edit, design, and produce all editions of the Aim High! newsletter. Members will develop leadership and organizational skills within a team-centered environment. Staff members will learn how to gather, filter, and process articles through Google Forms and Google Sheets, while using Canva to design each publication.
Club members will be given a school email that must be used to sign into Canva and other applications.
Club members should aim to possess the following skills:
- Communication: We are working as a team, so communicating issues in the newsletter or asking questions is an important aspect of getting everything to run smoothly.
- Time Management: Because we have a deadline for each issue, members need to pace themselves accordingly.
- Organization: We will be using various organizational applications that Google for Education offers. Students should be willing to learn how to use Google Chat, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Docs, and Google Calendar. Additionally, they should be willing to learn about design using Canva for Education.
Student Leader: Hi! My name is Janette Kotan, and I am the Founder and Managing Editor of the Aim High! newsletter. I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing, and I know that many of you do, too. Whether it be a poem illustrating the serenity of nature or a short tutorial on how to tie different styles of knots, I believe that all literature holds an important place in the world — and especially within a student’s life. That’s why I started the Aim High! newsletter. I want AAO students to share important stories with their peers. If you, too, want others’ stories to be heard, please consider joining the Aim High! newsletter club.
